Originating from China, both Shein and Temu face questions about their business practices including allegations of forced labor.

Murphy spoke with Tracy Perlman, an executive producer at WCCO, about her experience as a Shein customer. Perlman was attracted by the convivence of the online shopping app, but says returning a product was her biggest problem.

“I’ll buy four or five items, and need to return two of them. And it’s just not worth it for me to go to the post office. So I leave them in the bag,” said Perlman, “I end up donating them or giving them to friends.”

Perlman isn’t alone in her frustrations over returning products. Shein currently has an

Online shopping is still good post-pandemic

WHILE organizations still see good response in online shopping, retail association Retail Group Malaysia (RGM) has witnessed a 20% to 90% drop in online shopping activities, following the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Physical stores that offered virtual shopping during the lockdowns have seen a 70% to 80% drop in business since early 2022; online business at food and beverage (F&B) outlets had fallen by 50% to 60%.

Pure-play retailers that mainly sell online, had enjoyed a spike in their businesses during the lockdowns but saw transactions fall by 20% to 90% after that.

Continuing to enjoy stable sales are those offering unique and specialty products, said RGM managing director Tan Hai Hsin.

It is a different scenario at some organizations.

RHB Banking Group has seen a 49% increase in online spend post-pandemic, and a 9% quarterly growth recently.

That is an indication that online shopping is going strong; it is most likely that the preference for shopping via digital channels will continue, said RHB Banking Group head of digital business, group community banking, Calvin Wong.

The average value of shopping transactions might have dropped but OCBC Bank (M) has not seen a significant drop in online transaction volumes.

BBB issues warning over ‘fake,’ ‘non-existent’ products – NBC Chicago

As video social media platform TikTok rolls out its new “TikTok Shop” e-commerce feature, experts are warning consumers to be aware of potential scams.

“TikTok Shop is a completely personalized and fully integrated commerce solution, where sellers authentically connect with creators and communities to drive meaningful shopping experiences,” the platform says, of its e-commerce platform. According to the Better Business Bureau, an estimated 55% of TikTok users have bought something after seeing it on the app.

However, the new shop isn’t without risks, warned BBB President and CEO Steve Bernas.

“Consumers should vigilantly follow online shopping safety tips when using TikTok Shop,” Bernas said in a press release. “With any new service comes the potential for scams, especially with online shopping, where it could be difficult to verify a seller’s identity or vet their background.”

The release goes on to say that TikTok vets its sellers and removes products that violate the platform’s Terms of Service. However, “scammers can sometimes slip through the cracks,” Bernas said, by selling faulty, fake or even non-existent products.

The BBB offered the following tips for TikTik users:

  • Research the seller before you buy, and check the seller’s website. Just because you see a product

How to Safely Shop Online without a Bank Card

It has been widely assumed that making online payments is unsafe. While many have hesitations about online transactions, global markets are swiftly transitioning into a fully digital economy and society may soon become cashless. Financial inclusion is a priority and several companies are offering services to cater to this need.

Digital transformation is reshaping our global economy as it permeates every sector and aspect of daily life – changing the way we learn, work, trade, socialize, access public and private services and information.

This presents a challenge for South Africa, where 19 million adults are excluded from digital transactions. A survey conducted by PwC shows that cash is still considered a preferred method of payment by 50% of South Africans.

To address this challenge of a wide digital divide, African fintech company Mukuru and online payment gateway Payfast have partnered in providing consumers with an alternative solution to transacting without having to use a bank card. Individuals who prefer cash, now have an alternative means of making online purchases other than Cash on Delivery.

The question is how can consumers access this new payment option? The new feature available to merchants using payfast’s online payment gateway to receive payments is
